The cup holders in my 06 Prius are handy for storing sunglasses, phones, etc. but I wanted to use them for actually storing a cup of coffee. So I'm thinking - wouldn't it be great to use that flat, carpeted space between the front seats? I made a little tray out of wood to fit in that space, so I can keep my ID badge and phone charger out of my pockets and out of the way.

Other Prius people thought it would be handy for them too, so I made a bunch out of plastic (with recycled content, of course : ). Other Gen II Prius owners can check it out or get one at http://www.thecarcubby.com.

Neat idea. Does it slip or does it fit quite snugly? I watched the video and it looks like it may not be super tight. Do you want to send me a "demo" unit?

Thanks. People seem to like the simple functionality of the product. It fits pretty snugly and doesn't jostle around. In testing, I found that there all Prii are not created equal - there would be differences of 1/8" or so in the distance between the front of the center console and the base of the dash. Probably due to different part makers, different assembly lines, etc. So in some cars, there's a sliver of space, but it doesn't slosh around.

We've sold a bunch of Car Cubbies on-line and just got an order from our local Toyota dealer to put some in their parts shop - they've been very helpful and supportive. I'd be glad to send you a demo unit and get any ideas or comments you have. Just send me your mailing address privately.

The Car Cubby can now be found in the parts department at Marin Toyota and Novato Toyota. The price has also been reduced to make it easier to buy during these challenging economic times.
